Brian Head, Utah

A Ski Resort (Out of Season)

You may think that Brian Head in Utah, a ski resort and lodges, is a strange choice of location, especially for those of you that know Karen, who hates the cold and loves the sun! On this road trip, we are trying to be frugal and not spend $’s for a roof over our heads, or at least as cheap as possible. We have a timeshare, Hilton Grand Vacation, and we have converted some of the saved points into RCI points to give us more options. This week uses RCI points, and next week at Park City is on HGV points. We were at 9600 feet elevation at Brian Head.

Brian Head

The images below are around Brian Head. When we arrived, they had only just cleared the roads after the weekend snow! Some of the Ski runs were still in operation, with some of the hardened skiers using them. The deer photos are of a 9-year-old female who visits the store from time to time. This deer’s mother died during birth. Therefore the deer required human intervention and is not afraid of humans.

Red Canyon & Bryce Canyon

The first two images are from Red Canyon, Utah. The rest are from Brice Canyon, Utah. The image through the trees was our view of having a packed lunch. Yes, the corgi dog has sunglasses attached. The views were amazing, and again the weather is great.

Not Interstates

While traveling out on day trips, we took local/state roads rather than interstates as much as possible. On our way to Brian Head from Las Vegas, we found the Silver Reef Mine ghost town and museum.

On our way back from Bryce Canyon on Utah 89, we found Butch Cassidy’s (ROBERT LEROY PARKER) boyhood home and several other interesting towns and movie theaters (Cinema).

Altitude sickness

Unfortunately, Karen suffered from Altitude sickness at 9600K feet. We learned about a mother’s tip, eat canned peaches! It is believed that there is something in the juice. Did you know you can get a can of air with 200 puffs? The peaches and can of air helped, somewhat, but we checked out several days early and found a Hilton, Hampton Inn at a lower altitude. Richfield, Utah, was only at 5500 ft. Karen bounced back.

Can of Boost Oxygen.

Next stop

We are now in Park City, Utah. This is 6900 feet, and Karen seems fine here. Perhaps she is getting acclimatized to the rarified air?
