Embarkation Day and Day 2

It was 26 degrees with a real feel of 16 degrees. Way too cold for me, but the promise of warmer weather was plenty to get me on the ship.

Sat in the Centrum drinking Painkillers until our stateroom was ready. That helped us forget the cold.  It didn’t take long.

I’m one of those travelers that like to unpack before we do much of anything, so I started unpacking the overstuffed carry-ons that we had with us.  When I was finished our checked luggage started to arrive.  I was amazed at how much you can fit in all the nooks and crannies in the stateroom.  It took a little while to find a place for everything, but now it’s just a matter of being able to find it when we need it.  We have way too much, so there is a lesson to be learned going forward.

Sunset day one (Feb 3rd) was beautiful but I was only outside long enough to snap a couple of pictures of it before running back in to head to dinner.

Interesting sea on day 2.

Our first full day on board (Feb 4th) was still too cold to go outside so we stayed in the interior parts of the ship.  We had very interesting seas.  The seas were a bit rough but it looked as if steam was rising from the water.  It was also very windy and cloudy.  We spent the day mostly people-watching I always find that fun and interesting.  Watching the different ways the parents interact with the children from morning to seeing them again at dinner or later in the evening.  Some parents are extremely brave, and some children are extremely well-behaved – some not so much.

We’ve been asked if we saw the balloon being shot down.  We were close to it, but we were inside and didn’t know to look for it.  I don’t think we would have seen it anyway.

Had a great dinner in the Main Dining room.  It was a formal night, and of course, there was an assortment of people dressed in all kinds of clothing.  The new menu so far has been really good from what we have had.  We are managing to not go crazy and eat as we would at home (except we didn’t have a buffet or all the food we could want any time of day at home).  It’s been a little more difficult, but we are doing very well.  We also get 4 free drinks a day and haven’t had all 4 so far.  We get soda or flavored hard seltzer in an unopened can for the ones we don’t want to drink that day but don’t want to “lose” either.  They don’t roll over to the next day.

We got our first towel animal last night and are not quite sure what it is.  Let us know your thoughts. Graham says it’s a dog but neither of us has a clue.

Feb 5th, it’s warmer, but the sea is rough, and it’s very cloudy.  The sea was so rough that as we were lying in bed sleeping, I was awoken by the waves crashing against our window.  We are on Deck 2 in an Oceanview cabin.  I couldn’t tell what the noise was at first.  Glad it calmed down some, but it’s still rough.  Spending the day in the solarium enjoying the people watching and the ship’s motion.
