We made it to Avalon
We disembarked from Brilliance this morning. Getting of the ship was not a problem, we took our time as we were not in a rush. It’s a good job we were not in a rush. Getting through customs and immigration took some time after picking up our bags. We used a porter which speed things up. The non porter/need assistance lines were so slow and were reviewing most passports. We had our photos taken for facial ID once we were in front of the border protect and dismissed quickly!
I attempted to get a Lyft ride to drop of the two large bags that are not coming with us to Catalina. Unfortunately this became troublesome so we switch to a taxi. The taxi ride cost $10 to $15 more than Lyft would have been but it got the job done. After dropping of the two large bags that we will pick up next Friday on our return to the mainland, we had brunch before trying our luck at Lyft again to get to the Catalina Express ferry terminal at long island. This time we were successful getting a Lyft to materialize which allowed us to arrived in tones of time before the ferry departure time.
Leaving the dock we passed the old Queen Mary. She looks so small after some of the cruise ships we have been on. Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the seas was the largest ship in its day (2009) and can cary 6780 passenger’s when we first traveled on her in 2011. She, Oasis has now been superseded by Wonder of the Seas, with 6988 passenger’s. The queen mary had 2038 passengers. In comparison the other ship in these pictures from Long Beach, Carnival Radiance has 2984 maximum capacity.
The ferry ride was smooth. Well I think so as I slept most of the way.
We came across Carnival Miracle anchored just off Avalon. After checking in at the hotel we went for a stroll around town. Everyone is nice and friendly and the town is clean. Tomorrow we will do some exploring.
Looks beautiful!! Have a wonderful few days there. Off to the next adventures. Love all your pictures!!
Love you both!!!
