Day 4, Cartagena, Columbia.
We got off the ship for an excursion to the Old City and New City. We spent most of the time in the Old City and just drove the bus through the New City and the tour guide pointed out important sites. Old City was beautiful and we had time on our own to wander. It was only about 80 degrees but so humid we were dripping sweat (or at least I was, Graham not so much). The only thing that was a little frustrating was the number of street vendors. They were not too aggressive and mostly took “no, thank you” as NO! But there were dozens more in line to ask the same. Having said that, I did buy a small leather handbag at the very end. Plenty of t-shirt and jewelry choices and of course the junky things that my mother would have bought at least 5 each of so all her kids could have the pen or fridge magnet. Miss you Mom! Dinner tonight was Giovanni’s again. I ate till I couldn’t eat another bite, and we both skipped dessert. Below is a slide show of images we took today.
Tomorrow is Colon, Panama, getting close to the Canal.
Our tour guide’s name was Willy. Yes, we were walking around with Willy labels on our shirts in case we got lost! 😂
What you need to know about Cartagena door knockers!
We came across this drum band several times as they went through the old town.
Thanks for the pics. You got a quick look. Is it worth spending more time in?
Yes. We did not go into any of the numerous museums or the cathedral. We did not go into the castle. There are lots of old defenses to view.
I’ve resorted to having to get my World Atlas out to trace your travels as I don’t know that part of the world at all. It’s definitely improving my geography 😊. Enjoy navigating the canal today.
So its a geography lesson for us all. We have just posted photos from a great experience navigating the Panama Canal.
