Delaware – Doctors, friends & medical insurance!

Not a lot happening

I say that. However, we have been very busy but have not done much vacationing. However, some time has been spent by or in the hotel swimming pool, even though the weather has been iffy since we arrived on the east coast, especially in Delaware. We have also been catching our breath and planning our future travel. Making sure the money is there for final payments for cruises and cottages in the UK and looking at where we will be for the 2024 new year.

Doctors

We have spent time visiting doctors that we have not seen for some time. Not that we have been saving things up but just normal maintenance visits to fill prescriptions. As we have been traveling, we have been able to pick up prescriptions at other pharmacies across the country. Soon we will be out of the country for four months, so we need enough medication to last that time. More about this in a minute. We also visited the dentist for regular cleanings.

Medical Insurance.

As I mentioned, we will be out of the country for four months we need a travel override to get extra pills and potions. It should be simple, right? Simple, the computer says your last prescription was renewed with a date, and you need enough meds to run you through November 1. The computer says you need 60 pills, and we will send them to the pharmacy.

Wrong! Karen and I have a similar story as I called the Insurance co. This was my experience.

  • The ringing phone was answered promptly by a representative. Since I was traveling out of the country, he had to transfer me to his supervisor!
  • I was on hold for 20 minutes before the supervisor came on the line.
  • I verified all I had already told the representative.
  • The supervisor now had to call the pharmacy – Why?
  • After several tries on the general number and going to voice mail, she eventually used the doctor/provider’s number.
  • I was told she must contact the account executive and team for authorization.
  • I was told Nicole would contact me when authorization was finalized, and the meds were ready for pick up!
  • I hung up, waiting for Nicole to call me sometime in the next 1 to 3 days!
  • A few hours later, I headed to the pharmacy as I had another medication to pick up. Expecting one RX to pick up, there were three RXs ready! This was a present surprise that all my medications were ready. 😀
  • I never received a phone call from Nicole.
  • Karen’s override took a bit longer, but eventually, the prescriptions will be ready to pick up between July 7th and July 14th. We leave on the 14th!
  • Why should obtaining an override be so complicated?

Friends and Grands

We have had a great time catching up with friends and grandchildren over the last couple of weeks. Sorry if we haven’t gotten around to seeing everyone, but we will be back in November for at least a month or more.

Packing

We are leaving Delaware and flying to Houston to get on a cruise out of Galveston, Texas. We are taking Ryan & Noah on a four day to Cozumel, Mexico, to swim with the dolphins and will be back in Delaware on July 10th. After a brief stop at our 10×10 storage unit, we will be getting on a plane and heading to Iceland for a week, followed by a flight to the UK for four months, and returning to Bayonne, New Jersey, via a 15-day transatlantic cruise (Southampton, Spain, Azores, Bermuda, Cape Liberty).

We are packing for the first 4-day cruise, not doing formal night, so no formal attire. The remainder of the clothes we currently have need to be semi-organized, so the day before we head to Iceland, we can pack for 1) Iceland up front, 2) UK travel for four months, and 3) a Transatlantic cruise.

Since I am a male, I have no problem with outfits. I add another thermal layer if needed. Now Karen, on the other hand……
