Halifax, Nova Scotia

Hurricane Tammy Diversion

On our transatlantic crossing, this was our second attempt to reach Bermuda, and again, we failed due to a hurricane. Therefore, this is our second time in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The first time was October 2014. Quote: “Due to damage caused by Hurricane Gonzalo, your sailing will not be able to call at Bermuda. Instead, Explorer of the Seas will now call to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and St. John, New Brunswick

This time, the problem was caused by Hurricane Tammy.

The captain even created a video for the passages to understand why we were diverting. Diversion certainly had my vote, as no one wants to go through or even get close to a Hurricane. Of course, some people were unhappy as the Hurricane did not hit landfall in Bermuda; it turned northeast and would have been directly into our path, but you can’t please everyone!

Halifax

It was a beautiful day in Halifax, unlike our first time in 2014, which was cold and rainy, and all we did then was get on the hop-on-off bus. This time, we had sun and little to no breeze, allowing us to walk along the waterfront and sit outside for a nice lunch at The Bicycle Thief restaurant. We should have asked where the name came from. Here are some of our photos. It was Halloween, so check out the dinosaurs and the drunken lamposts.

And then ….. time to pack to disembark at Bayone, NJ. 😩

By the way. This is all the luggage we had while traveling internationally to Iceland and the UK from July until November. We went to some interesting launderettes and met some interesting people when the cottages we stayed in did not have washing facilities.
