Last year, we were in Edinburgh, Scotland, and missed the Tattoo. This year, we scheduled a trip around the Tattoo. Below is a video showing a brief clip of all of the participants. We thoroughly enjoyed this event and recommend it.
The event started with a pair of RAF Eurofighters fly-by that we were not expecting, and, unfortunately, we did not get a photo. But we did get the fireworks at the end. The next performance was going to be the last performance for this year.
Easyjet to Edinburgh
We flew to Edinburgh on Easyjet. The outbound flight had nothing to report. The return flight was different, with a lightning strike on the tail of the plane that had to be repaired, causing a delay on the inbound flight, then a delay of the fuel tanker arriving because the airport was short on tanker drivers, thunderstorms in the vicinity of Gatwick and Heathrow airports causing and air traffic control (ATC) slow down of flights into the area caused us to go to a remote stand to wait for our time slot. Eventually, we took off and circled around the south coast (Brighton, I think) many times while waiting for the storm to clear Gatwick Airport. Phew. We returned late (4 hours or so) but were safe.
While on the tarmac in Edinburgh, we thought we would record an unruly passenger video. This passenger shouted out that we should get off while waiting. The cabin manager quickly addressed the guy who shouted, and it did not become a problem.
There was a train strike going on the same day. We learned that two of the crew members came in on their day off to fill in for staff who could not get in.
Updates and on the move
We have left Ashford and are heading “up country,” as they say, to stay at other cottages. We were so busy while in Ashford and have not found time for updates with all the photos, but stay tuned for updates.
